CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY (CSR)
 

Our Board of Directors acknowledges the importance of the CSR the framework of which has been launched by the Bursa Malaysia on 15 September 2006. The move by Bursa Malaysia is seems to be inline with the decent intention of the Government to inculcate the culture of corporate social responsibility among the public listed companies. Therefore, the Board had agreed to beef up the Company’s social activities with an intention to share the company’s profitability with the public in forms of contribution on social responsibility activities.

Amongst the activities carried out by the Company include providing practical training for universities students, giving some donations to several schools and providing sufficient trainings to the Company’s staffs. The Company also has made a significant donation for Flood victim at Johor.

In July 2008, TRC contributed RM50,000 for the construction of Dewan Maktab Sultan Abu Bakar, Johor. The contribution was presented to YM Tunku Mahkota Johor, Tunku Ibrahim Ismail Sultan Iskandar during a low-key function in Johor Bahru.

In 2008, TRC had also contributed RM10,000 to National Press Club for their members to organise a four-day trip to Sabah which aimed at enhancing fraternal ties and the spirit of fellowship among members of the media industry.


CSR Programme in 2009


TRC begins its CSR programme for the year 2009 with a small contribution of RM30,000 for Tree Planting Campaign in Bukit Kiara. The campaign known as Hutan Kita - Kiara is a reforestation programme initiated by the Malaysian Landscape Advisory Panel focusing on rejuvenating the deteriorating forest in the heart of Bukit Kiara. During the campaign, TRC contributed 500 trees.

As a continuous effort to strive for better, convenient and conducive working environment, TRC has provided free daily lunch for its HQ staffs from September 2009. The programme was initiated in conjunction with the Company's shift to its new corporate office at Jalan Andaman Utama, Ampang. There are about 80 staffs benefited from the programme. 

CSR Activities in 2010

In 2010, the Company had initiated the establishment of a foundation which is to be known as Yayasan TRC. The primary objective of Yayasan TRC is to encourage the Company's staffs in giving better educational opportunities to them and their family members as well as to assist them in form of monetary such as donation, scholarship and educational tools and equipment to their eligible family members. The Yayasan will also provide assistance and relief to the Company's staffs who suffer losses from any sort of misfortune.

The Company had also contributed to the national sport development by sponsoring a team for the Premier Hockey League. Being the premier sponsor for UniKL TRC Team, the Company hoped that its small contribution would in anyway helps the Malaysian Hockey Federation in providing and developing bigger talent pool which can be selected to represent the National team in the near future.

CSR Programme in 2011

During the financial year ended 31 December 2011, the Company had incorporated a foundation which is known as Yayasan TRC. The primary objective of Yayasan TRC is to encourage TRC Group’s employees where education is concerned to continuously upgrade themselves and to give better educational opportunity to their family members as well as to assist them in form of monetary such as donation, scholarship and/or educational tools and equipment to their eligible family members. Besides providing immediate assistance and relief to the employees who suffer losses from any sort of misfortune, the Yayasan would also assist members of society particularly those from areas in which the TRC Group has business activities, in form of providing contribution and donation to educational institutions, orphanage, local association/clubs and other suitable bodies in upholding their activities and objectives. In December 2011, the Yayasan had assisted a Company’s staff whose house was caught on fire.

Besides channeling its philanthropic activities through the Yayasan, the Company had also make direct contributions to associations, NGOs and school for activities such as “Save and Clean Hulu Kelang Campaign”, and sponsorship for Sekolah Menengah Taman Melawati F1 Team. The Company had also made monetary contribution to Persatuan Keluarga Polis (PERKEP), Persatuan Diabetes Malaysia and few other organizations.

In 2012, the Group continued to support worthy causes which involve the society, welfare and charitable organization as well the Group's staffs by donating various amounts to various parties and bodies within the country. These include contributions to the welfare bureau fund of Persatuan Kontraktor Melayu Malaysia, Persatuan Kebajikan Keluarga Bekas Polis dan Tentera (POLTERA), Majlis Paralimpik Malaysia and few other contributions and donations.

As a continuous effort to strive for better, convenient and conducive working environment for the staffs, the Company provided free daily meals for its headquarter staffs. This practice has been ongoing since September 2009.

The Group had also organized Safety Day programme at Putrajaya and Bangunan Dayabumi project sites. Among the objectives of the programme was to enhance safety awareness and to promote safety culture among the workers.

In addition to that, the Company also offered opportunity to undergraduate and diploma students of various public and private university and colleges especially those who are from construction related courses to undergo practical training at the Group headquarters and site offices with the prospect of employment with the Group upon completion of their studies. There are twenty seven practical trainees had been attached to the Group and RM26,000 had been paid to them in form of allowances.

In 2013, through Yayasan TRC, the Group undertook the following social activities:-

 i)          Financial aid to the victim of a house fire incident in Ulu Kelang, Selangor;

 ii)        Staff education aid to two eligible TRC staffs in pursuing their out campus studies in Master Degree in Integrated Construction Project Management and Bachelor  Degree in Human Resource Development.

 iii)   Education Achievement Awards were given to seven students who excel with straight A in their Peniliaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) and Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR).

 At the national level, the Group also participated in Tabung Bencana NSTP Media Prima in extending aid to flood victims throughout the country in December 2013.




CSR Programme in 2014


During the financial year ended 31 December 2014, the Group continued to support worthy causes which involve the society, welfare and charitable organization as well the Group’s staffs by donating various amounts to various parties and bodies within the country. These include a number of contributions to Master Builder Association Malaysia (MBAM) for its activities such as MBAM Drive Flood Donation, Surau Renovation, Annual Golf Tournament and its 60th Anniversary Dinner. The Company also contributed to Tentera Laut Diraja Malaysia (TLDM) for activities in conjunction with TLDM 80th Anniversary and also contributed to repair works at SMK(P) Methodist Jalan Cenderawasih Kuala Lumpur. As a strong gesture of support to local football development, the Company agreed to pledge a yearly contribution of RM500,000 to Persatuan Bola Sepak Negeri Johor for four years.

As a continuous effort to strive for better, convenient and conducive working environment for the staffs, the Company provided free daily meals for its headquarter staffs. This practice has been ongoing since September 2009. Recently the Company established a Center of Excellence at its Head Quarters which will provide a conducive well-equipped in-house training center for all staffs. During the year under review, the Group had also organized Safety Day programme at Kelana Jaya LRT Line Extension Project site. Among the objectives of the programme was to enhance safety awareness and to promote safety culture among the workers.

In addition to that, the Company also offered opportunity to undergraduate and diploma students of various public and private university and colleges especially those who are from construction related courses to undergo practical training at the Group headquarters and site offices with the prospect of employment with the Group upon completion of their studies. During 2014, 65 practical trainees had been attached to the Group and RM74,747 had been paid to them in form of allowances.

Besides all the above, Yayasan TRC which was established by the Company in 2011 undertook the following activities pursuant to its rules of establishment:-

i) Staff education aid to two eligible TRC staffs in pursuing their out campus studies in Master in Business Administration and Bachelor Degree in Human Resource Management.

ii) Excellent Education Achievement Awards were given to five students who excel with straight A in their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia, Peniliaian Menengah Rendah and Ujian Peniliaian Sekolah Rendah.

iii) Financial assistance to TRC staff who suffer for health problem and to the heirs of a deceased staff.

CSR Programme in 2015

During the financial year ended 31 December 2015, the Group continued to support worthy causes which involve the society, welfare and charitable organization as well the Group’s staffs by donating various amounts to various parties and bodies within the country. These include a number of contributions to Master Builder Association Malaysia (MBAM) for its activities such as MBAM Nepal Earthquake Disaster Relief Donations Drive and Donation for MBAM New Building Fund. The Company also participated in the Pantai Timur post-flood relief efforts coordinated by the Construction Industry Development Board Malaysia (CIDB). Besides, the Company also contributed to the welfare of the local community of its Head Quarters by participating in Community Policing Crime Prevention Programme and supporting the Surau activities.

As a continuous effort to strive for better, convenient and conducive working environment for the staffs, the Company provided free daily meals for its Head Quarters staffs. This practice has been ongoing since September 2009. The Company had also intensified its internal in-house training whereby 12 training sessions had been organized and initiated at the newly established Center of Excellence at the Company’s Head Quarters.  The establishment of a conducive and well-equipped in-house training center augurs well with the Company’s direction to promote sustainability in the Group’s business operation.

During the year under review, the Group also organized Safety Day programme at its construction sites. Among the objectives of the programme was to enhance safety awareness and to promote safety culture among the workers.

In addition to that, the Company also offered opportunity to undergraduate and diploma students of various public and private university and colleges especially those who are from construction related courses to undergo practical training at the Group headquarters and site offices with the prospect of employment with the Group upon completion of their studies. During 2015, 61 practical trainees had been attached to the Group and RM64,000 was paid to them in form of allowances. The Company, through MBAM also participated in the collaboration with Politeknik Ungku Omar for internship placement commitment. The collaboration was aimed to strengthen and enhance collaborative activities in human capital development on the construction industry, particularly in the development and implementation of the work-based learning programme in the civil engineering and construction field.

Besides all the above, Yayasan TRC which was established by the Company in 2011 undertook the following activities pursuant to its rules of establishment:-

i)              Staff education aid to the Group eligible staff in pursuing out campus study;

ii)             Financial aids to 54 staffs whose families were affected by flood in East Coast Peninsular and earthquake in Nepal;

iii)            Financial aids to 17 poor families from Gombak area during Ramadhan and Hari Raya Aidilfitri;

iv)           Excellent Education Achievement Awards were given to four students who excel in school and university level; and

v)            Tuition fees and higher learning education aids to the Group eligible staffs’ family members.

In 2015, for the second consecutive time, the Company participated in The Bursa Bull Charge. Five runners from the Company together with other thousands runners charged through the streets of Kuala Lumpur to raise funds for charities whose causes include economic sustainability among disadvantaged communities, support for entrepreneurs and the improvement of financial literacy.

Moving forward, the group acknowledges the need to move beyond CSR whereby the emphasis should also covers sustainability. Initial steps have been taken by the Group to raise awareness and understanding of sustainability among its senior management and the necessary to gradually shift their mindset and focus in implementing the Group business activities.

CSR Programme in 2016

Throughout 2016 TRC Group has carried out the following activities:-

  • A weekly morning exercise for all Head Quarters and some project sites staffs. Besides, an occasional sport tournament were also organized amongst the staffs;
  • The Company provided free daily meals for its Head Quarters staffs;
  • The Company organized 15 training sessions for the Group’s staffs at its Centre of Excellence located at the Head Quarters. Besides organizing in-house trainings, the Group’s staffs, inclusive of the Board would also require to participate in relevant trainings/seminars organized by professional bodies that relevant to the respective staffs’ field. During the year 2016 the Group spent RM85,800.00 for this purpose.
  • Donations were also given to Education and Welfare Fund of Persatuan Bekas Artileri Malaysia and Master Builder Association of Malaysia (MBAM) Education Fund.

In addition to the above activities, the Group also via its yayasan which is called Yayasan TRC organized the following activities:-

  • Extending educational aids to the eligible staffs family members as well as to sponsor eligible staffs to pursue out of campus degree programme;
  • Extending monetary support to eligible staffs who suffers critical illness as well as for cases of deaths;
  • Extending monetary aids to students from less privileged families in conjunction with Deepavali celebration;
  • Sponsoring daily breakfast for 152 students of a neighboring school; and
  • Extending student’s excellence awards to eligible staffs family members who excelled in their primary examinations.

CSR Programme in 2017

A number of CSR activities have been organized by the Group in. Amongst those activities are as follows:-


A weekly morning exercise for all Head Quarters and some project sites staffs. Besides, an occasional sport tournament were also organized amongst the staffs;
The Company provided free daily meals for its Head Quarters staffs;
The Company organized 10 training sessions for the Group’s staffs at its Centre of Excellence located at the Head Quarters. Besides organizing in-house trainings, the Group’s staffs, inclusive of the Board would also require to participate in relevant trainings/seminars organized by professional bodies that relevant to the respective staffs’ field. During the year 2017 the Group spent RM12,650.00 for this purpose.
Donations were also given to the following entities:-
i. Persatuan Bekas Artileri Malaysia;
ii. Persatuan Diabetes Malaysia;
iii. National Press Club Malaysia;
iv. Retired Malaysian Naval Officer Association; and
v. Kelab Anak Waweasan Pekan Pahang (KAWAN)

The Group also offered opportunities to undergraduate and diploma students of various public and private universities and colleges especially those who are in construction related courses to undergo practical training at the Group Headquarters and site offices with the prospect of employment with the Group upon completion of their studies. During 2017 fifty eight (58) practical students attached to the Group and RM92,166 had been paid to them in form of allowances.

In addition to the above activities, the Group also via its yayasan which is called Yayasan TRC organized the following activities:-


Extending educational aids to the eligible staffs family members as well as to sponsor eligible staffs to pursue out of campus degree programme;
Extending monetary support to eligible staffs who suffers critical illness as well as for cases of deaths;
Extending monetary aids to students from less privileged families in conjunction with Chinese New Year and Gawai celebrations;
Extending student’s excellence awards to eligible staffs family members who excelled in their primary examinations; and
Sponsoring tuition sessions for UPSR students of a neighboring school.

Monetary Aids For Pupils of Sek Keb Nanga Ajau in Conjunction with Gawai Festival

In 2017, the Group also embarked on a strategic collaboration with Jabatan Pendidikan Politeknik (“JPP”) to draw up a strategic cooperation of both parties in improving the quality of learning, especially in the field of construction in polytechnics throughout Malaysia and subsequently producing quality human capital and competitiveness to fill the needs of manpower in Malaysia especially in the field of construction.


Through the collaboration, both parties agreed to jointly: -


implement the "Work Based Learning" program which is part of the curriculum for the final year students of Bachelor of Civil Engineering Technology and Diploma in Civil Engineering at Politeknik Ungku Omar (“PUO”) in order to equip the students with real work experience;
develop a conducive and modern learning center for the needs of the students majoring in Bachelor of Civil Engineering Technology in PUO;
exchanging information and knowledge by conducting discussion sessions and lectures on the development of the Construction sector;
assist in identifying and providing suitable employment opportunities to graduates of the Bachelor of Civil Engineering Technology of PUO; and
provide practical exposure to the lecturers of PUO through the Lecturer Counseling program at the office or construction site operated by the Group.



Collaboration with Jabatan Pendidikan Politeknik

TRC also agreed to develop TRC Edu Centre at PUO which will be a Technology Enabled Collaborative Centre (TECC). The Centre will be equipped with Virtual Reality (VR) hardware and  software which is in line with the Concept of Industry 4.0.

The Centre will be utilised by PUO to promote active learning process particularly for the students in Civil Engineering as the Centre is equipped with computer simulations of actual reality in sustainable construction technology by virtual reality. The Centre also will be a conducive space for practical talks and session by the Group senior staffs to PUO students.

Besides, as a sign of support to the efforts by local artists to empower local art works, the Company has helped to establish a Community Art Gallery by Assoc. Prof Jailani Abu Hassan by providing exhibition and office space at the Company’s Headquarters Building which is called the Jalak Art Initiative.

Apart from being a place where local artists exhibit their artworks, the Jalak Art Initiative also organized community art projects whereby series of talks and dialogues have been organised to discuss issues related to artists’ developments and their art works.

In addition, Jalak Art Initiative also organizes free workshops to young artists to enhance the quality of their artwork.
